But how does a change actually takes place?
Today, this is my wonder. In practical terms, either you have an idea or a passion to realize. Both cases require an effort in doing some background research, e.g.are you looking for voluteering? You'll have to find the organization that represents your own idea of change. And your research begins. You might find various opportunities that might suit you and you might decide to apply for them.
But, anyway and anyhow, while we make a change, that same change will begin within ourselves. And at a certain point the change will affect people and things around us. Because it's not what Life wants from us, it is about what we want from Life. We are agents of change. PV and PP are about this.
Transformation, mutation, cooperation, discovering, personal development and team work. Why am I so fascinated by images?
Because the image is non-discriminatory, it embraces who ever decides to take the journey. It doesn't matter if you know how to read or to write, the image is there to be observed and therefore to give you emotions.
But image is also a powerful tool of communication. Feelings emerge from it, and those feelings are there for a reason. Images allow people to express THAT reason and allow other spectators to take part of it.
There is a beautiful project called
'Visualizing women's rights in the arab word'
which explores the potential of visualizing and the importance fo communities and people coming together to make the change. The success of each idea is given by the strenght of each individual who takes part to the project. No individuals, no change.
Sight Of Change
Sight Of Change is an initiative aimed to collect and share visual projects made by people, focusing on Participatory Video (PV) and Participatory Photography (PP) as tools for empowerment. Sight Of Change wishes to create a network where it is possible to exchange ideas, share a vision or simply learn about PV and PP applied to human rights and development.

Video Volunteers- India and Brazil
Video Volunteers is an international NGO active in India and Brazil. Formed by ten communities, people are trained to use video technology in order to talk about issues which affect them, to develop a critical thinking and to increase their chances to gain visibility within aspects of decision-making.
I believe that the sense of empowerment is, once more, expressed through people's capacity to put situations into words. The power of image supports statements of anger, sadness, and frustration. The image helps to visualize and better identify the 'need'. Also, PV and PP might support the spectator during the development of its own perspective about poverty and human rights.
Video Volunteers as a specific area dedicated to videos made by and for the people.

While reading a newspaper I'm aware that the news might be politically- oriented. This matter of fact creates a sense of disorientation and powerlessness. This is one of the reasons why having direct access to sources of information - people's experiences- helps me to gain a better understanding of what is going on, while creating a direct engagement with worldwide communities.
Therefore, it is fundamental to share links to spread the message and create a new coscience.
PEOPLE ARE NOT MERE VICTIMS, BUT INSTEAD ACTIVE AGENTS OF CHANGE.

One Day On Earth - Join, Feel Inspired, and Take Action
I wanted the first post to be something 'special'. A proper experience which had to involve everyone who knows already about participatory projects, and those who are new to this approach. I came accross the initiative below and found it really interesting since is to be considered as a social experiment that will take place on the 10/10/2010 all around the world.
Can talk about 'Transformative learning' as it is about each one's life experience and they way in which he/she decides to represent it?
The outcome is aimed to be unique in its own kind.
The idea of creating a worldwide web-based community enhances the possibility of raising awareness around issues affecting people, environment, and animals.
Let's see what will happen! Join the group, feel ispired by what you see, and put thoughts and words into images.
I will keep you updated!
