Video Volunteers- India and Brazil

Video Volunteers is an international NGO active in India and Brazil. Formed by ten communities, people are trained to use video technology in order to talk about issues which affect them, to develop a critical thinking and to increase their chances to gain visibility within aspects of decision-making.

I believe that the sense of empowerment is, once more, expressed through people's capacity to put situations into words. The power of image supports statements of anger, sadness, and frustration. The image helps to visualize and better identify the 'need'. Also, PV and PP might support the spectator during the development of its own perspective about poverty and human rights.

Video Volunteers as a specific area dedicated to videos made by and for the people.

While reading a newspaper I'm aware that the news might be politically- oriented. This matter of fact creates a sense of disorientation and powerlessness. This is one of the reasons why having direct access to sources of information - people's experiences- helps me to gain a better understanding of what is going on, while creating a direct engagement with worldwide communities.

Therefore, it is fundamental to share links to spread the message and create a new coscience.

PEOPLE ARE NOT MERE VICTIMS, BUT INSTEAD ACTIVE AGENTS OF CHANGE.
